Hot and cold weather and finding the best setup – that is how we could describe Race 1 of TCR International Series in Bahrain. The practices and qualifying took part while it was warm outside and, on the other hand, the race was in dark and colder conditions. The track temperature during the day was around 46 degrees while during the race it was around 25 degrees. That is a big difference and it was the team Craft-Bamboo Lukoil driving with SEAT Leon TCR, which managed this the best. Pepe Oriola and James Nash finished 1st and 3rd while Gianni Morbidelli was 2nd with Honda Civic.
Mato Homola, Slovak race driver of B3 Racing Team Hungary was doing everything that was possible. However, a combination of some driving mistakes with not the best setup and with not a great start end up in dropping to position 11. So Mato had to push hard, after the start to get back. Mato had a battle with TCR Champion Stefan Comini for P7, and later on for P8 with Davit Kajaia. Both of the battles were spectacular and even the last corner of and final straight was great to watch. Mato jumped from P9 to P8 only with 0.045sec.
“I did a couple of mistakes and also, the start was not the best. But I’m happy. In the end, I believed I can get P8 so I pushed hard and it worked, what I’m very happy about.” Mato’s team mate Dusan Borkovic who finished on P2 in qualifying dropped to P6 in the race.
