TCR Singapore 2016 – Fourth place for Mato Homola in the Race 1

Third place in the Qualifying followed by the Fourth position in the Race 1 here on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore.
On the Marina Bay Street Circuit, there are not many options for the fast lap on the new tires in the qualifying session. Mato Homola set a really good lap time after the tire change, a what put him on the P2, but Morbidelli outpaced him with just 0,003 s. His lap times was later removed due to the track limits violation and was moved down the starting grid for the first race.
“I’m really happy with the qualifying result, as I was not absolutely satisfied with the car yesterday, but we have done several changes and it worked. I would like to thank my team for the good work done. Let’s focus on the first race now!”
The start didn’t go as planned for Mato. “The starting procedure is rather hard and I didn’t do the right “push” at the beginning, and afterward my tires started to spin, thanks to what I lost several places.”
Mato dropped to the P5, but immediately in the first lap overtook Nash and got to the P4. “I knew, I had to attack as soon as possible, so I used the first chance and it worked.”
The whole race was really equal and Mato kept his position till the end of the race. He had to slow down in the last two laps. “I felt light skids in the right corners, I had to slow down a bit, but it was quite safe, as the gap was rather safe. While I was going under the chequered flag, my front left tire just blew up in a puncture, so I was really lucky. I am really happy with the P4, as last two racing weekends were really a nightmare for me.”
