Unsuccessfull qualifying has cost Mato Homola important points in Barcelona
Slovak racing car driver, Mato Homola, began the racing weekend with promising results in the Free practice 2, but Mato was in the qualifying capable of P22 only. later on, he improved the result in the race, with P13 and 5 points.
The racing weekend of the TCR Europe series starts usually on Friday, with two free practice sessions. Mato finished the first one on the P14, with good improvement in the FP2, where he ended up on P8.
Saturday morning started with huge thunderstorms, Formula qualifying sessions was even canceled due to the weather. It didn’t influence the TCR Europe qualifying though and we started on time. The track was wet and slowly was drying up. Mato was not able to adapt his driving style and his result was only good enough for P22. That is the position for the Race 2 on Sunday, but for today’s race, he was supposed to start from the P27.
This changed later on, as two of the drivers got a penalty for an engine change, so he was starting from P25. The track has dried up in the meantime, so the race was on dry tires.
There were many contacts already in the first corner, so the safety car was called out on the track. Mato was on the P23 and after the safety car period, he made several overtakes and finished the race on satisfying 13. positions, with 5 points.
Tomorrow is another day and Mato has his goal: „I have to make a great start, and I hope to score some more points tomorrow. I am happy from the race result and therefore I am even less happy from the qualifying today,“ said Mato after the race.
