The first TCR Europe 2019 race is coming!
After a long winter break, the time has come. Starting the machines and let’s get the racing started! Mato Homola, one of the best Slovak racing drivers currently is no exception. The upcoming weekend will belong to the first races of the 2019 season of TCR Europe, and Mato will tame the best tool for the job – Hyundai i30 N TCR.
Mato Homola has introduced several news for this season already. First of many is the new championship – crème de la crème amongst the continental touring cars championships. Let’s continue with the new team, Italian Target Competition. 15 years of successful history in the motorsport. New teammates are coming with the new team – Serbian Dusan Borkovic, Swedish sibling couple Andreas and Jessica Backman, or the Brit Josh Files. Another change for the 2019 season is the car. Mato will be behind the steering wheel of last years FIA WTCR winning car – Hyundai i30 N TCR.
At last, but not least – the TCR Europe series will be, after a long time, motorsport, you can watch from your sofa – live, on the screens of your home television, thanks to the Slovak national TV RTVS. The first race of the weekend will be broadcasted almost live (because of another program, the race will start at 12:00, but with live commenting of Jan Zgravcak and Michal Cimbalik from onlineracing.eu). The second race of the weekend will go live in real time on the RTVS web page, with live Slovak comment.
And how will this weekend look from the racing and sporting point of view? There are two free practice session on schedule on Saturday, each planned for 30 minutes. Followed by the qualifying session, which is split into two parts – Q1 and Q2. First of the two will be 20 min. long, the second one comes 5 minutes later and will be 10 minutes long. Q1 is for all the drivers, while the Q2 is reserved for the 12 fastest only. The points are given to the 5 fastest drivers. 5 points to the fastest, 4 points to the second, etc. The starting grid for the first race is set from the qualifying results, and for the second race, first 10 drivers from the Q2 are placed on the grid in the reverse order.
The Slovak representant said before the first race weekend: „I can’t wait to be back in the car after the long break. We have a great car, and I tested it on the Hungaroring on the pre-season test. I like this track and I have had some good results here. In addition, I am really excited, as I expect many Slovak fans to come, as this will be the closest as we will come this year to Slovakia. We are not coming closer to my homeland this year. And I am really happy for the cooperation with the Slovak national TV RTVS, as motorsport will get the same air time, as for example, cycling, or biathlon,“ and he adds: „The competition will be huge. There will be 31 drivers on start, with 10 drivers in the same car as me. I will fight like a tiger!“
